So in recent months... Ive been picking up the graphic novel compilations of the Teen Titans. One person on the team particularly stood out to me. Absolutely adore the lil' guy. Bart Allen. (A.K.A. Impulse A.K.A. Kid Flash II A.K.A. Flash IV)
I can't explain what it was about him, but I just do. I guess it's the "Single Synapse Theory" of his behavior and the entire reading the entire San Fransisco Public Library in 20 minutes straight out of re-constructive knee surgery without anesthetic... and not a single complaint. That endeared him to me.
So the last couple of weeks, I've been hunting down DC compilations involving him. (Nothing against Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, and Wally West, but they just haven't caught my interest.) If anyone can point me to a list, it'd be much appreciated. Looks like most of the Impulse comic series was never compiled. This is why I typically avoid DC and Marvel series like the plague: I can't buy just one title if I want to follow a character, I have to search him out across fifty. Right now, I have 1-6 of the Teen Titans compilations, a couple of Flash ones from when he was Impulse, a Flash one about his death ( I just found out this weekend. I'm not up on DC events, so sue me.), and the Impulse #1-6 compilation.
So, I've tried my hand at drawing him. Not too shabby, right?
Not too shabby at all ^____^ He looks so cute in his mischievous way XD The smirk is adorable.

Damn, they killed him? Stupid comic companies, killing off the fun characters because they're not as serious as your front line... Having plentiful characters should be a GOOD thing, as long as you're not trying to publish a book for every single one. Cameos are good, and the ones with background characters are better because they don't fuck up continuity for your frontrunners.. bah.
Though I don't really know who he is you certainly drew this fabulously. The expression and pose are so full of win. I don't know how else to properly say it. You also did a great job on the hair and the folds.
He's all fluffy and adorable. And a smart-ass. Hmmm. I want the hoodie too. Or an Impulse styled hoodie that says "Single Synapse Theory (From thought to deed in one quantum leap, forgoing any reasoning-out or those pesky second thoughts.)" on the back.
That is why I mostly read manga. American comics is crazy. *huffs* I rarely get attached enough to a character from a big multiverse like this, so it hasn't been an issue before. But I've liked Teen Titans enough as a stand alone in the past that I picked it up... (I like the Titans in a passing, I don't need to know everything kind of way.) And then I meet Bart, and he's just too love-able. So when the TT trades got completely disjointed with obvious giant plot stuff left to a different title I'm supposed to magically know about... I was gonna just drop it, figured I'd find the Kid Flash (or Flash) comic trades from Bart's run... And find out there's an Impulse comic of just him, but it's not in trades except the first 6, find his deatch as the Flash (he technically only lived 16 years, but died in his 20s due to increased metabolism and growing up in a VR that matched his pace for the first several years)... And all the stuff inbetween is god knows where. It makes me sad. It shouldn't be so hard to follow one character.

Yup. He lived about 16 years total (in comic-verse) apparently. Died when physically in his 20s. You'd think they didn't like him. I think cameos are good, but they get these plots that cross over 3-10 titles so you can't follow a linear story at all. I was really surprised to hear Bart had his own title; I figured I could pick up from Flash #XX to #XX and be good... But nooo. He's been on a bunch of different teams and in these crossover stories from hell. Fuckin' DC.

Yes, I liked Bart, and he was the first Flash I really did any following of. I read "Impulse" when it was published (I may have them stuck in a box), partly because it was actually set in a DC-universe town in Alabama. He's fun, and sweet.

If you're looking for more Bart, Impulse was a founding member of Young Justice. There's a few trades of that series out there.
