Well, it's about THAT time.
Fessing up and all.

This was a piece created, in part, to be the promotional image for the next :iconclub-tutu: contest. [link]
But not really.
The contest, where the members would submit art or fiction of the Princess Tutu characters as genderflipped steampunk versions of themselves, never really happened. It was an April Fool's Day joke :iconasatira: and I decided to play.

Long story short:
We had come up with some prompts for the next contest to be voted on by our members. In the midst of discussion about the topics, Becky decided to combine two in order to see how many votes it would get. It eventually got the least votes. We had decided, prior to the results, to take the loser of the poll and use that as a joke. It was a not too surprising pleasure that this lost and got used.

Despite being a joke, I think the promo art itself is actually a pretty nice collaboration piece on our parts.
=Asatira did the pencil and inks, and I did the digital colors.
Her sepia-toned version of the piece can be seen here: [link]

The chibis at the bottom are my own addition to round out the announcement of the prank.

Thank you to everyone who played along, and we'll see you for the REAL contest in May.

Aw! You had me fooled. I even whipped up some art for it yesterday and it was surprising how easy it was to come up with girl-Mytho.

Seems we duped quite a few folk. I think we expected more skepticism than we actually received.
But when a trick results in such pretty and creative work, it's hard to feel too bad. Thank you for finishing and sharing your piece.

Oh I  your chibis! Ahiru looks adorable, and Fakir is just Hilarious! Mytho and Rue look like they're having a little too much with this. XD

Thank you!

Haha, yes, I had fun with the chibis. I almost put dialog of Mytho suggesting they switch outfits, but I opted not to --better left up to the reader what they're discussing. They're the idiotically love-love couple in my post-series version of Tutu-verse.

Haha. Seems we got quite a few more people on this than initially expected. Go figure.

As one person on LJ pointed out, "seems a bit too confusing/unrelated for me. If it was just gender-bent or just steampunk, then maybe. but no offense, this is a bit too specific". And it probably is too complex for your average fan, certainly for a week-long contest.

*still has insane desire to draw victorian ballerina neko-sensei, but knows it will take hours of research because she is type-A* :paranoid: SEE! the things you put into my brain!

Doooo eeeeettttt. You should. ^_~

I have an urge to draw "Ahiro"/"Prince Tutu" in a fancy gold & white victorian suit with mechanical wings rescuing "Fakira".

Haha. I need to draw MOAR of that.

Hahaha! Nice! As much as this was a joke, I actually rather do want to see it.
