Storm Esnir
[ Storm | Undine | Dercesthai | Mainyo | Aodhan ]
(( The description below is the same for every entry in the "LotF - Progression" series ))
I first started drawing web comics almost 6 years ago now, in June 2001. I've since worked on 6 total web comic titles, with varying degrees of length, dedication, and success. As of now, I only have two I consider to be "active" Overhill (co-authored project with ~Asatira) and Legend of the Four.
The one that started it all was Legend of the Four on June 30th, 2001. I didn't plan ahead at all, story-wise or character design. But I've had fun with it regardless. The plot is screwy and complex. I really want to scrap it and re-start most days, and the art... Well... part of the reason I started LotF was because I couldn't draw a character looking even remotely the same way twice.
Due to various issues known as Real Life(TM), my updates have become near non-existent... But seeing ~picatrix post progression images of a couple of her characters a while back inspired be to go through my archives and show how the 5 most prominent characters changed over the years, in my ability to draw them, and design-wise.
2001: Aodhan & Mainyo didn't appear at all this year, and Dercesthai only very briefly. Argh... I can barely stand to look at this. Consistent character designs are what? I'm amazed anyone could tell it was the same person from page to page.
2002: Color happened more often, character designs are still all over the place. Colored pencils... Hahahaha.
2003: There are maybe 4 posts for that year. A lot happened: I was working on other comics, interning in Minnesota for the first time, and we lost my Father that July. Between personal trauma/events and the great Keenspace crash that wiped out my archive, my updates started to get horribly infrequent from here on out.
2004: Character designs have settled in, and now the art itself is starting to look decent. Chibis came into regular use. I started experimenting heavily with inking styles, and with the exception of once or twice, all coloring is digital.
2005: Just kind of moving along. Started using patterns in coloring; makes for a neat effect. Harry Potter and Poison Elves references popped up, and I introduced the concept of elves using glamours to blend into human society. I got more varied in my characterizations of Dercesthai. A sister? With tattoos? Oh-ho-ho... My poor uptight elf.
2006: Really infrequent updates still. Spent most of what updates did happen with Undine and Aodhan, and in flashback. You see kid versions of Derce, Mainyo, and Aodhan.
2007: No Storm's character design didn't change again. I'm planning ahead. It's Future!Storm ...Updates? Umm... Look! Something shiny! *runs off*
